Curling Wands and Curling Irons

What is a curling wand? Is it really different from a curling iron? How do you use each of them? Do you even need both? Read on to discover the beauty of the curling wand and the curling iron.

First, some definitions. A curling iron has a clasp and creates polished ringlets. The tightness of the curl depends on the size of the iron. A curling wand has no clasp and is used to create natural waves.

Curling Iron Features

Heating: Heating speed in a curling iron is usually only a couple of minutes. The barrel heats to give the hair beautiful curls.

Heat Settings: Some irons have only one heat setting. However, there are many types of irons with more than one setting allowing you the option of determining how hot to heat your hair.

Barrel Size: With this tool, the size will determine the tightness of the curls. If the barrel is narrow, the curls will be smaller and tighter. A wide barrel means bigger curls.

Heating Plate: There are three basic types of heating plate materials: ceramic, tourmaline, and simple metal. Occasionally you’ll find a combination of ceramic and tourmaline used. The ceramic and tourmaline models are more expensive and protect the hair strands while heating causing the hair to resist damage. The metal ones are far less expensive and offer less protection.

Interchangeable Barrels: Some models will allow you to change the barrels. This means you can work with one sized barrel one day and then change it to another size barrel another day. This means you would only need one iron for multiple different styles.

Curling Wand Features:

Heating: Heating is really fast with these. Be sure to use the safety glove so you don’t burn your fingers.

Wand Barrel and Shape: The shape of the curling barrel is tapered in the front of wands. This makes the curls tighter and smaller at the ends of the hair strands.

No Holding Clip: Because there is no clip to hold the hair in place like the iron, the curls come out even and smooth without the mark of the slip at the tip of the strand.

Durability of Curls: Curls done with the wand stay all day and night because the heating is so strong.

The curling iron always created polished curls. However, the curling wand can create anything from tight curls to voluminous waves to piecey waves. When the curling wand does create ringlets, they can be broken up using your fingers to look more like waves.

Differences Between a Curling Iron and a Curling Wand:

Structural: There is no clip in a wand which makes curls without the clip mark. With an iron, this mark can appear in every strand unless you are very careful.

Speed: The wand heats up faster giving results faster than the iron.

Smoothness: Curls are smoother and shiny when done with an iron. However, a wand gives gentle curls that are less polished.

You hold a curling wand differently from a curling iron. With a curling iron, the cord should be down. With a curling wand, the cord should be up.

The curling wand creates natural looking waves. Think of a wavy line curving back and forth but stays flat. Thus, this tool will create natural looking waves, like beachy waves, to mimic a more natural hair texture.

When you look at the results from both tools, you can see that the curling iron created waves that are more polished and bouncy while the curling wand created more natural, relaxed waves. It is good to have both in your toolbox so you can use the iron when you want a more polished look and the wand for more casual hangouts.

Deciding on a Curling Iron or Curling Wand

There are five things to look for in a heat tool:

  • Does it get hot enough to adequately curl your hair?
  • Is it the right size barrel for the curls you want to create (smaller barrels = tighter curls, larger barrels = bigger curls)?
  • Is it easy to hold and use?
  • Will it last over time?
  • Is it the right tool for my hair type?

Best Heat Tools for African American Hair

Three Must-Have Characteristics of Heat Tools for African American Hair

  1. Barrel Size

Bigger barrels mean bigger curls and vice versa. As your hair is naturally curly or kinky, you cannot use a bigger barrel for your natural hair. Moreover, relaxed hair is somewhat damaged so you cannot use anything less than a one inch barrel. Thus, the 5/8 for natural hair and the 1/5 inch for relaxed hair is best.

  1. Material

All four basic materials for heat tools, ceramic, porcelain, titanium, or tourmaline, produce fairly even heat. The Tourmaline generates more negative ions and provides a smoother surface than the other three. Negative ions protect the hair from further damage while preserving the natural oil of the hair by sealing off the cuticles. But as Tourmaline is a semi-precious gemstone, it is treated with other materials to maximize the benefit at a moderate price. However, a coating of any form is cheaper.

  1. Heat Setting

Depending on the thickness of your hair, you likely don’t need to tune in to very high temperatures on a heat tool. Natural hair requires moderate to high heat. The relaxed hair needs low to moderate.

Fixing Credit Rating in 2016

Fixing Credit Rating in 2016 –  Kyriaki Maria Grigoriou

There are various myths surrounding the ominous and ever-present credit scores, which seem to be able to reduce people into orwellian ranges of numbers. Well, in truth no one actually knows exactly how they work, but experts have concluded that the most reliable formula for the elements that make up people’s credit scores comprises of the following:

  1. 35% payment history

  1. 30% the amount that you owe vs your available total / your utilization rate

  1. 15% the length of your available credit history

  1. 10% your new credit

  1. 10% other factors

Thankfully, all of these issues can be taken care of by you personally, without ever having to rely on credit improving companies or services. We are going to help you get things in order, and we will also provide you with some facts that will help you make informed decisions about your credit score in the future, as well.

Making your payments on time

For starters, the most effective step you should start your quest for credit score improvement with, would be to simply pay all of your bills on time. Sometimes it can be tough, but paying your bills on time really does work wonders for your credit. Building a good credit history, with minimal borrowing but perfect attendance as far as payments go, will help you get loans, mortgages, credit cards and even insurance way easier. If you think about it, the bank is essentially trying to assess your financial habits, so that it can make an attempt at predicting your future behavior around money. However, don’t fret if you have made some mistakes in the past- there is no universal ‘black list’ for irresponsible clients, and even if there was one, we’re here to help you fix the problem, not run away from it!

So, it’s pretty clear that you should pay your bank on time, but should you really pay your credit cards in full? This is a bit unclear, but the general consensus is that no, you shouldn’t keep paying your cards in full (even if you are capable of doing so) if you intend to take a loan our in the near future, because even though you may think that by doing so you present yourself as the perfect client, the fact is that the bank ends up labeling your account as non-profitable (since you never pay any interest), and might, in turn, reject your loan.

Other sources claim that you don’t actually have to resort to paying interest on purpose, or to taking unnecessary loans in order to build up your score, because the only thing you really need is to keep your utilization rate low, and to make all of your payments on time. So, you could try both approaches and see for yourself which one gets you the best results.

Another good way of tackling the issue of timely payments is to set up a way to automatically pay the minimum each month, and then pay a little surplus in person, so that you stay a little above the recommended minimum. By never missing a payment, and by paying at least the bare minimum of 30%, you can start working your way up. However, we recommend paying at least a bit more than that, so that you can start bringing your utilization rate down.

For even faster results, you could try making two payments per month, even if you have to split the same amount in two, because of the way the bank’s snapshot system works; once per month, the bank will take a snapshot of your account, and take note of your current utilization rates. The problem is we don’t know exactly when that happens, so, by paying twice per month, you can make your account look better by default!

However, there may be some unforeseeable circumstances and draw-backs in the future, so there is always a chance that you will not be able to make a payment. The responsible thing to do in this situation, would be to sit down with your bank, be upfront and admit that you are facing some financial difficulties, and then try to work with the lenders, in order to create a new plan that will work for both of you. Remember: banks tend to avoid collectors agencies when they can, since they usually don’t get a lot of money back by hunting down their clients. This way, your temporary inability to make a payment will not end up hurting your credit score -or at least you will be able to do some damage control.

Lowering your utilization rate

Another easy trick you could resort to, in order to lower your utilization rate, is to get a new credit card, that you will only use a little bit. This credit card will increase your total available credit substantially, but if you don’t use it, it won’t increase the amount of credit you are currently using. By changing, for example, your utilization rate down from  $1500 used / $2000 total  to  $1500 used / $3000 total, your credit score will improve substantially.

You should strive to gradually pay off the credit cards that are closest to the max, first, since your credit cards’ individual utilization rates count towards your credit score, as well! Whenever possible, you could opt for a debt consolidation loan, or you could even try transferring any large amounts to accounts or cards with better rates (as long as there are no transfer fees).

In general, you should keep your credit cards well below your limit, to ensure a raise in your credit score.

Creating a good credit history

A good credit history can help your dealings with the bank, and will eventually lead you to a great credit score. One of the easiest ways and fastest ways of building up your credit history is to become an authorized user to someone else’s account, provided that their credit history is good and stable. This way, their credit history is being reflected in yours, and the bank will see you in a more favorable light. It goes without saying that you should take care not to bring the original holder’s score down by indulging in irresponsible behaviors!

This linking system may backfire, though, since getting your name mixed up with people who behave irresponsibly might reflect back at you, too! So don’t let your flatmate pay your electrical bill late if your name is on there as well, because consistent late payments may bring your credit score down, too, even though it may be their responsibility, and not yours, to make timely payments. In that respect, you should always split your finances with your ex spouse as soon as you can after a divorce, so that you can have full control of the financial behaviors that reflect on your bank accounts and credit cards.

As far as good credit history goes, closing your bank account can -and will- break your history record. Unfortunately, the credit history that goes with your account will disappear as well, and your credit score will take a major hit! Never close a bank account, even if you have paid off everything, to avoid this problem.

Be present, be responsible, take action

By showing the lenders that you are on top of your finances, you appear more capable and reliable in their eyes. One simple thing you could do to achieve this, which many people overlook, is to personally check your accounts’ information, and to keep it as current as possible – ever-changing addresses and different telephone numbers per account can make you look disorganized and unreliable.

If you are in the US, you could even check your credit reports from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, and dispute any incorrect information you may find.

As for your applications (for loans, cards etc), you should take care not to appear too desperate for loans, so make sure you space them out throughout the year, so that you don’t accidentally get rejected for making too many applications simultaneously.

By following these simple guidelines, you can start building your credit score up today! Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have, as we will do our best to answer.

  1. 15% the length of your available credit history

  1. 10% your new credit

  1. 10% other factors

Why hair extensions are so popular?

hairFrom celebrities down to the simple commoner, people tend to love hair extensions. What is it in hair extensions that people get so attracted to wear them? Is it because of the shine? Is it because of the thickness? Well, let’s find out.

Why oh why?

1. Too short. Generally, women love to cut and style their glorious mane. We rush to the salon, driven by emotions, get it trimmed and later realized that it’s too short. When we realized that our lovely mane is too short and we cannot style it the way we used to, that’s when we seek the help of hair extension. Yes. It’s hard to be a woman, we get emotional and saddle our hidden emotions to our hair, especially when happy, sad, sometimes when excited about something, and most of the time when we move on to the next chapter of our lives. (But most of the time, Hormones are to blame too!)
2. Hard to grow. Having thick and healthy hair is always in. However, some may have a hard time growing their crowning glory back. Some of us are patient enough to wait for years until it grows, but let’s face it, this does not apply to everyone. When it’s hard to grow back your lustrous hair, there is only one way to get it overnight.
3. Wake up with nice hair. Ever wonder how to save time and effort and still look trendy and beautiful. Well, having extensions can do this. You sleep with nice hair and wake up still having manageable, beautiful hair.
4. Give your hair a break. Exposing your hair daily to heat, blowdry and harsh hair products will affect its natural beauty and growth. Installing hair extensions will give your hair time to recover and retain its natural oils because you won’t need styling anymore. You will have a perfect hair every time without the hassle while giving your hair a break.
5. Styling. Imagine waking and sleeping with a perfect hair. Styling is a major reason why people love hair extensions so much. You get to choose the style you always wanted and have it without the hassle of curling or spending too much time making it straight. Just a perfect hair every time!
6. Color. Adding streaks of color that you like can make a big difference. Some just love to play it highlights without the damaging hair dye on their natural hair.
7. Baldness. Some experience early alopecia or baldness in which case lowers the confidence of some individuals. People that underwent chemotherapy and experience the same situation, can benefit from using hair weave too.
8. Long and gleaming. Some are born with beautiful hair, some have to develop it, however, some have long glossy hair extensions. For some who are not gifted with long, shiny hair and just too busy to get it treated, well this is the best answer without the constant upkeep.
9. Volume. Let’s face it, no matter how much we trim, spray Volumizing cream and add a bottle of body defining mousse, you just can’t get the same body and the volume you get using hair extensions. Whether you want an elegant up do, sexy, beautiful curls and thick straight black hair, hair extension is your way to achieve the look you always wanted.
10. Esteem. Upcoming events like school reunions, wedding or just a simple get-together can certainly give us an “ urge to look beautiful” than the last few years. Having confidence whether you’re out with friends somewhere or in the business district is a must. It is always important to have a good self-esteem in everything you do. Always look at the bright, more beautiful side of you. Dare to be beautiful every day!
We struggle every day just to keep our mane good looking, but with hair extensions, worry is less than expected. More time to smile and lesser hair stress. The advantage that hair extensions have to offer is having a gleaming and perfect hair always!
